Why Compare Fuel Prices?
UK fuel prices vary dramatically between stations — even those within a few miles of each other. The main drivers of price variation are local competition, proximity to refineries, property costs, and brand positioning. Supermarkets use fuel as a loss leader, pricing it aggressively, while branded stations and motorway services charge significantly more.
Understanding why prices vary can help you make better choices. Read our guide to why fuel prices vary for the full picture.
Compare by Fuel Type
- Unleaded (E10) prices — Standard petrol for most cars
- Super unleaded (E5) prices — Higher octane for older or performance cars
- Diesel (B7S) prices — Standard diesel
- Premium diesel (B7P) prices — Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does your petrol price comparison work?
We source prices from the UK Government's CMA open data scheme, which requires major retailers to publish their fuel prices. Enter your postcode and we show you every forecourt nearby, sorted by price. Data is updated every 15 minutes.
Which fuel types can I compare?
We cover all fuel types in the CMA scheme: E10 (standard unleaded), E5 (super unleaded), B7S (standard diesel), B7P (premium diesel), B10 (diesel with 10% biodiesel), and HVO (renewable diesel). Filter by any type in our comparison tool.
How much can I save by comparing petrol prices?
Prices can vary by 10 to 15 pence per litre between nearby stations. On a 50-litre tank, that's up to £7.50 per fill-up. Over a year with fortnightly fills, comparing prices can save you £100 to £200.
Are supermarket fuel prices always the cheapest?
Almost always, yes. Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons consistently undercut branded stations by 5 to 10 pence per litre. Costco is often the cheapest of all. However, it's worth checking — some independent stations and smaller chains can be competitive in certain areas.
How often should I compare prices?
Ideally before every fill-up. Prices can change daily, and the cheapest station today may not be the cheapest tomorrow. A quick check takes 30 seconds and can save you several pounds each time.
